Still in the masterplan project of MVRDV, a Rotterdam based architecture firms, 24H-architecture continued to develop two ecological houses within the urban plan of Nieuw Leyden, Netherlands. The building block consists of 18 houses, which has been designed in distinctively divergent styles by different architects. Both houses consist of a 4 level house with a water patio, various terraces and green roof gardens, the living rooms set on the first level, while the bedroom and bathroom on the next levels. The slightly lowered ground floor consists of workspace and access to the parking garage with 2 parking spaces. Interesting, the interior and exterior consist of various certified wood materials; outside designed to resemble a canyon in keeping with a technique employed to flood the building with plenty of natural light, the facade is either a playful excess or an absurd waste depending on each persons taste. Separated by space, these two buildings are set around a central courtyard with a canyon wall that flushes in light. Inside, the flooring of bamboo parquet, window and door frames of compressed bamboo, front and back facade of FSC certified louro gamela and jatoba and the wooden terrace decking of compressed bamboo. Front and back facade contain also corten steel parts. A gap carved vertically down the space of building illuminates the perforated timber interior, acting as proof of the home’s uniqueness inside and out.
