A well made tongue and groove floor is a beautiful thing.  It is easy to keep clean and holds up under heavy foot traffic.  Not all tongue and groove floors are created equal, however.

A tongue and groove floor is a variation on “tab a goes in slot b.” The planks for the floor are cut so that one side has a tongue, or projection out of the plank. The other side has a groove, or slot, to receive the tongue of the plank next to it. You simply fit the tongue of one plank into the groove of the adjacent plank.

Inside the world’s first billion-dollar home

While visiting New York in 2005, Nita Ambani was in the spa at the Mandarin Oriental New York, overlooking Central Park. The contemporary Asian interiors struck her just so, and prompted her to inquire about the designer.

Nita Ambani was no ordinary tourist. She is married to Mukesh Ambani, head of Mumbai, India-based petrochemical giant Reliance Industries, and the fifth richest man in the world. (Lakshmi Mittal, ranked fourth, is an Indian citizen, but a resident of the U.K.)

Forbes estimated Ambani’s net worth at $43 billion in March.

Fratelli Studios by Twins Studio

Romanian design firm Twins Studio designed the Fratelli Studios club in Bucharest, Romania.

The club is designed in an industrial, factory-like building, with large metallic pillars and metal beams. Our main idea for this club was “Think Big!”.

We covered the interior walls with a series of large wooden blades, about 4 meters tall, which can be rotated along their central axis. Opening up the kitchen, Island Edition

Rule #1

Islands work best in kitchens with ample clearance between cabinet banks & circulation zones, and when they aren’t an obstacle to kitchen use.

That being said, I really like a single level counter at 36″ on an island. It opens up the space without the disruption of a 42″ high bar counter. The lower height serves as a more subtle separation between the cook and the companion.
